Frequently Asked Questions
Do you assess prospective pupils?
There is no formal assessment for pupils joining the Prep School. Pupils are informally monitored during their taster day and any concerns are discussed with parents.
Pupils joining Years 7 to 9 are asked to complete short Maths and English assessments as part of their taster day. These help us understand pupils’ current level in key areas rather than from a particular background or curriculum.
Leweston is a non‑selective school. Assessment helps us get to know pupils before they join us so we can support them effectively.
If you have questions about assessment or individual needs, please contact the Admissions team in advance so we can make any necessary arrangements.

What opportunities are there outside the classroom?
Leweston offers a vibrant co‑curricular life, including arts, sport, pentathlon, equestrian and daily outdoor activities. Every child is encouraged to discover and pursue their passions, whether on the stage, on the sports field, in the riding arena or through a wide range of clubs and societies.
Can we see classes in action when we visit?
Yes. During Visit Week you will tour the school, observe lessons where possible and meet teachers and students so you can experience our learning environment first‑hand.
How far in advance do we need to register?
Some year groups, particularly at key entry points, regularly have waiting lists. We recommend visiting the school at least two years ahead of entry where possible.
Registration reserves a place in the requested year group and year of entry, subject to the usual admissions process. It does not guarantee an offer, but the registration date can be a factor where a waiting list is in operation.
